What Is the Ghoststep Build
ok so the Ghoststep playstyle is basically the fastest thing in Phantom Blade Zero and honestly it took me like two full playthroughs to really figure out how to make it work cause at first I thought it was just dodge spam but theres actually a lot of nuance to it and tbh once you get the rhythm down it feels incredible like you're just dancing around bosses and they cant even touch you, the whole idea is you use dodge cancels into backstab positioning and then chain ghoststep attacks that ignore enemy guard and the damage multiplier for backstabs with the right skills is actually insane like 3x normal damage on some weapons and when you combine that with the speed of dual blades or phantom edge you basically delete things before they finish their attack animation
Best Weapons for Ghoststep
I've tested basically every weapon in the game with this build and heres what actually works and what doesn't, the core philosophy is you want weapons with fast recovery frames and high backstab multipliers cause your entire gameplan revolves around positioning behind enemies between their attacks and honestly some weapons that look great on paper just have too much recovery lag to work properly
- Ghost Razor (Primary) — ok this weapon was literally designed for this build and tbh it's not even close, fastest attack speed in the game at 98 speed stat and its unique passive adds +40% backstab damage which stacks multiplicatively with your skill tree bonuses and ngl the base damage is only 40 but who cares when you're hitting 3x backstabs every second
- Shadow Stinger (Secondary) — spear weapon with 75 speed and poison DoT on hit, the reach is really nice for bosses that move around a lot like Snake Sovereign and the poison ticks keep your DPS up even when you're repositioning, I use this as my opener weapon then swap to Ghost Razor for the actual damage rotation
- Bow of Silent Wind (Phantom Edge) — this is your ranged option for bosses with dangerous close-range phases and honestly it's a Phantom Edge so it uses the 1-bar Sha-Chi system which means you can spam it almost constantly, the range stat of 90 makes it the safest kiting weapon in the game and the wind arrows pierce through multiple enemies in a line which is great for mob clear sections
Skill Tree Path
The Shadow branch is where you're gonna spend most of your points and I mean almost all of them honestly, the key skills you absolutely cannot skip are:
After maxing Shadow you want to dip into the Deflect tree just for the dodge frame extension passives cause the default dodge iframes are 12 frames at 60fps and with the Shadow Evade + Deflect passives you get that up to like 20 frames which is massive for consistency, stat priority is Agility > Speed > Sha-Chi and honestly you don't need much Sha-Chi for this build cause you're mostly using normal attacks and ghoststep cancels not Power Surges, put Agility at like 40 minimum before touching anything else
Boss Matchup Tier List
ok this is the part where ghoststep really varies depending on what you're fighting and tbh some bosses are just miserable with this build while others feel like a joke
- S-Tier — Ogre Hammer Lord, Wan Jun Coppermaul: these big slow bosses can't track you at all with ghoststep, their attacks have huge recovery windows and you can get 4-5 backstabs per cycle, Wan Jun in particular becomes almost trivial cause his hammer swings have like a full second of endlag
- A-Tier — Snake Sovereign: the poison pools limit your movement a bit but the bow of silent wind lets you kite safely and you can ghoststep through the tail swipes, just watch out for the poison mist phase where you have to go ranged only
- B-Tier — Iron Blade Chen: this is the nightmare matchup, his tracking is too good in phase 2 and the shadow clones in phase 3 completely negate your stealth positioning, you'll spend more time dodging than actually doing damage and honestly you're better off switching to a parry build for this fight
