🔥 3 Core Builds

Build Guides

ok so you're staring at the build screen trying to figure out what to run and honestly I've been there like literally sitting there for an hour just reading weapon descriptions and changing my mind every 5 minutes and I'm not gonna pretend there's one perfect answer because there isn't and anyone who tells you otherwise is probably full of it tbh, I've played through the entire game three times now with different setups and each run felt like a completely different experience which is kind of insane when you think about it and basically there's three main ways to play this game and they all work it just depends on whether you wanna go full aggro and melt bosses in 2 minutes or play it slow and safe and parry everything or something in between where you kind of adapt on the fly, I've died to every boss with every build at least once so I'm not gonna sit here and tell you any of these are easy mode because they're not and the game will punish you no matter what you pick but some builds definitely make certain fights way more manageable and some make you want to throw your controller across the room and that's just how this game works you know what I mean

Offensive Hard

Aggressive Chi Rush

this build is basically nonstop pressure nonstop attacking nonstop everything and honestly it burns through Sha-Chi so fast you'll wonder where your bars even went like one second you have 5 bars and the next second you're empty and staring at a boss winding up a one-shot, punishes mistakes so hard it's not even funny tbh and you better know your dodge timings like the back of your hand or you're gonna spend more time on the death screen than actually playing because this build does not forgive anything and I learned that the hard way after dying to Seven Judgments like 40 times in a row and wanting to uninstall the game

Playstyle Summary

The Aggressive Chi Rush build is honestly all about overwhelming your opponent with relentless offense and I mean RELENTLESS like you don't stop attacking ever you just keep swinging and swinging and swinging until either the boss is dead or you mess up and die instantly. And there's really no in between tbh. Because you spend Sha-Chi as fast as you generate it using bleed stacks from Jagged Steel to apply constant pressure while the Savage Axe punishes any opening with massive stagger damage, I remember the first time I landed a fully charged Savage Axe hit on a staggered boss and watched their health bar just disappear it was honestly one of the most satisfying moments I've had in any game and I've been chasing that feeling ever since. So this build absolutely destroys in quick decisive fights where you can just go ham. But ngl it leaves very little room for error and you will die if you mess up your timing even once. And the thing is once you get going and get into that flow state it's so fun you won't wanna play anything else it feels like a completely different game where you're the boss and the bosses are just trying to survive and that's not an exaggeration like seriously try it and you'll see what I mean

Recommended Weapons

Jagged Steel (Primary)

Fast sword with bleed buildup and honestly one of the most satisfying weapons in the whole game like the sound it makes when you hit something is just chef's kiss, builds your Sha-Chi quickly while stacking damage over time on the boss and the bleed ticks just keep going and going and you can literally watch the health bar drain in real time and it never gets old

Savage Axe (Primary Swap)

Massive two-handed damage that chunks bosses like crazy and I mean CRAZY like you'll see chunks of the health bar disappear and wonder if the game is bugged or something, switch to this when the boss is staggered for maximum punishes and you'll see their health bar just melt before your eyes and it's so satisfying when it connects especially after you spent the last 3 minutes getting smacked around and finally get that opening to just unload

Shadow Chakram (Phantom Edge)

Boomerang projectile thing that hits enemies at range while you close distance and I honestly slept on this for way too long before realizing how useful it is, great for maintaining pressure when the boss jumps away or you need to back off and heal or whatever the boss does when it gets scared of you which is basically never but you get the idea

Sha-Chi Management

Spend fast, generate faster. With Jagged Steel's rapid hits you'll generate Sha-Chi pretty quickly and don't hoard it seriously just spend those bars on Savage Axe heavy attacks and Phantom Edge abilities literally the moment they're available because the whole goal is to keep the boss constantly reacting and never letting them breathe not even for a second, hoarding Sha-Chi is pretty much the worst thing you can do with this build and I learned that the hard way after dying so many times to Snake Sovereign while sitting on 5 full bars thinking I was being smart and then getting one-shot during my own greed and honestly that was the moment I finally understood this build and stopped trying to play it like every other build in the game

So you basically wanna open with Jagged Steel light combos to build 3 to 4 Sha-Chi bars then swap to Savage Axe for a charged heavy attack that spends 3 bars all at once and the damage is actually disgusting when you time it right. And use Shadow Chakram while at range to chip and build bar again. But honestly whatever you do don't hold Sha-Chi longer than 5 seconds because every bar not spent is damage lost and that's the whole point of this build and the whole philosophy behind it. If you're sitting on full bars you're playing it wrong plain and simple, and I don't mean that in a gatekeepy way I mean literally the entire build stops working if you stop spending and the bosses will just recover and all your momentum is gone and then you're back to square one which sucks and happens to me all the time when I get distracted

Seven JudgmentsGoodAggressive pressure prevents ally revives
Snake SovereignGoodFast strikes match pace, bleed stacks drain fast
Inverse HeavenBadTwo bosses punish over-extension, need Ghoststep discipline
Ogre Hammer LordNeutralDodge-heavy fight makes sustained pressure harder
Defensive Medium

Defensive Parry Master

Counter focused gameplay built around extended parry frames and honestly it drains enemy Sha-Chi while preserving your own for precise counter attacks and the first time you chain three perfect parries in a row and then counter for half the boss's health bar you will literally never want to play any other build again imo, it's the most satisfying way to play once you get the timing down and everything just clicks into place and you feel like you're in one of those kung fu movies where the hero just stands there and everyone attacks and misses and then one hit ends the fight

Playstyle Summary

The Defensive Parry Master build rewards patience and timing in a way that feels so damn good when it clicks and I'm not even exaggerating like the first time you perfectly parry a Brutal Move and see the enemy's Sha-Chi bar drain while yours fills up it's honestly one of those gaming moments that makes you lean forward in your chair and actually pay attention. With the Venomous Softblade's extended parry windows you can consistently deflect Brutal Moves with the blue flash and drain the enemy's Sha-Chi and basically turn every boss fight into a waiting game where you're just collecting their mistakes and cashing them in for damage which sounds boring when I describe it like that. But it's actually the most tense and engaging way to play because every parry is a gamble and if you miss you eat a full combo. So this build absolutely excels in long multi-phase boss fights where survival matters more than burst damage. And you know what sometimes slowly dismantling a boss piece by piece is way more fun than rushing them down. Also the feeling of perfectly parrying three attacks in a row then watching the boss enter their vulnerable state where you can finally unload is just chef's kiss, I can't even describe how good it feels and I've legitimately yelled at my screen after pulling off perfect parry chains against Inverse Heaven which I'm pretty sure is the hardest fight to parry in the entire game

Recommended Weapons

Venomous Softblade (Primary)

Extended parry frames make this the best counter weapon hands down and I've tested pretty much every weapon with parry windows and nothing comes close to this thing, successful parries drain enemy Sha-Chi and it just feels unfair once you get the timing down which is kind of the whole point of the build and honestly it feels like the devs put this weapon in specifically for people who wanted to play the game like Sekiro

Bow of Silent Wind (Phantom Edge)

Ranged poke to build Sha-Chi safely from a distance where you can actually see what's happening and not just a blur of particle effects, charged shots punish enemies during their recovery frames which is probably the safest way to do damage in this entire game and surprisingly useful for bosses that like to jump around and do their annoying movement thing that makes melee impossible sometimes

Blood Sigil (Phantom Edge)

Heals 15% HP on next hit which is kind of insane for long fights where you're inevitably gonna take chip damage no matter how good your parries are and that's just the reality of this game, this is your critical sustain tool and it's saved my run so many times I've literally lost count and there were at least 3 boss kills where I would have died without the heal proc and had to start the whole 15 minute fight over and honestly I probably would have quit the game if that happened

Sha-Chi Management

Let them come to you. Parrying enemy Brutal Moves generates bonus Sha-Chi for you while draining theirs and the whole idea is a resource advantage because when the enemy has no Sha-Chi they enter a vulnerable state where you can unload safely without worrying about getting hit back and honestly this is the cleanest way to handle tough bosses and it makes you feel like an absolute pro when you pull it off consistently and I've had moments where I parried my way through an entire phase without taking a single hit and felt like I should be on a esports team or something

Basically you hold defensive posture and wait for blue flash attacks then parry to reflect damage and drain 1 to 2 enemy Sha-Chi bars per parry and you just keep doing that until they're empty. And use Bow of Silent Wind to poke during neutral to build your bars safely from a distance. Then when the enemy is Sha-Chi depleted you swap to an offensive combo with your stored bars and just go absolutely ham for like 10 seconds before going back to defensive mode and repeating the whole cycle. It's pretty simple once you get into the rhythm and honestly it becomes second nature after a few fights and you stop thinking about it entirely and it just becomes muscle memory. But that's also when you get cocky and miss a parry and die and remember that this game doesn't mess around even when you think you're good

Best & Worst Matchups

Seven JudgmentsGoodMulti-phase boss gives many parry windows
Inverse HeavenGoodDefensive posture helps manage two bosses at once
Ogre Hammer LordGoodDust attacks are Brutal Moves, easy parries
Snake SovereignBadFast Killer Moves are harder to distinguish, takes practice
Hybrid Medium

Hybrid Flex

Adaptable all rounder build with mid range crowd control and burst potential and it's effective against pretty much any boss type with room for adjustment and you can swap weapons around to tweak it for specific fights, honestly it's what I'd recommend for a first playthrough every single time no question and I wish someone had told me to start with this instead of going Aggressive Chi Rush first and dying 50 times in the first area like an idiot

Playstyle Summary

The Hybrid Flex build doesn't specialize in any one thing and that's kind of the whole point of it. And honestly when I first started playing I thought hybrid builds would be trash because usually in games the jack of all trades is master of none and you just end up mediocre at everything. But this one actually works somehow and I'm still not entirely sure why. So maybe it's because the weapon synergy is just that good, White Python and Red Viper give you rapid multi hit combos for building Sha-Chi faster than almost any other weapon in the game while Dragon Fire provides mid range burst that lets you punish from a distance and Thunderbolt Shard gives you AoE for when there's multiple enemies or adds or whatever else the game throws at you. Because you keep your options open to respond to any boss pattern, you never feel completely helpless against any particular fight which is a feeling I had constantly when I was learning the game and trying to force the Aggressive build into every situation like a stubborn idiot. Anyway this is the build I'd recommend for first playthroughs because it teaches you everything without punishing you too hard for mistakes and honestly you can clear the whole game with it if you want it's that versatile and I've done it twice now and both runs were way more fun than my first run where I banged my head against walls for hours

Recommended Weapons

White Python & Red Viper (Primary)

Twin blades with the highest hit rate in the game and they generate Sha-Chi faster than any other weapon which is honestly kind of broken if you think about it, they just feel amazing to use honestly like you're a blender and everything in front of you just melts and the attack animations are so fast that sometimes you can't even see what's happening but the damage numbers keep going up and that's all that matters tbh

Dragon Fire (Secondary)

Arm cannon with charged piercing shots that are excellent for punishing boss recovery frames from a safe distance when you don't wanna get up close and risk eating a heavy hit and honestly the charged shot timing takes some getting used to but once you figure it out it's probably the safest damage dealer in the game

Thunderbolt Shard (Phantom Edge)

Lightning AoE burst for clearing adds or staggering bosses during their wind-up and it's super satisfying when it connects with that crack sound effect ugh I love this thing so much it's honestly underrated and I don't see enough people talking about it which is weird because it's saved me in so many situations where I was about to get swarmed by adds and just panic pressed the button and everything died

Sha-Chi Management

Options are your resource. With three different Sha-Chi spenders including Dragon Fire charged shots and Thunderbolt Shard burst and Twin Blade Power Surge you basically have the right tool for every situation and that's the whole advantage of this build over the other two which kind of lock you into one gameplan, read the boss and pick the spender that fits the moment and if you guess wrong you've got two more options to fall back on and I'm not gonna pretend I always pick the right one cause I definitely don't and half the time I'm just mashing whatever looks coolest at the time which is probably not optimal but it works more often than you'd think

Build 4 to 5 Sha-Chi bars with White Python and Red Viper multi hits which honestly takes like 3 seconds cause those things are so fast then use Dragon Fire charged shot for 3 bars of safe ranged damage from across the arena where the boss can't touch you, save Thunderbolt Shard for 2 bars as an emergency stagger when the boss is about to attack and you need to interrupt them RIGHT NOW or you're dead, and swap between ranged and melee as the fight dictates without ever over committing to one style, it's all about staying flexible and reading the situation as it unfolds and not getting greedy and that's the hardest part of this build honestly cause it's really tempting to just keep swinging those twin blades forever but that's exactly how you get punished and die and have to start the fight all over again which I've done more times than I care to admit

Advanced Build Tips

Weapon Swap Mid-Combo

You can cancel recovery frames by swapping weapons mid combo which is honestly kind of busted ngl and I'm pretty sure the devs left this in on purpose because it feels too good to be a bug, practice the Jagged Steel 3 hit into Savage Axe charged attack for maximum burst and you'll be shocked how much damage you can cram into a stagger window it's actually wild how much this opens up the combat and once you learn to do it consistently you'll wonder how you ever played the game without it

Phantom Edge Rotation

Equip one offensive and one utility Phantom Edge then rotate between them to keep both off cooldown because maximizing uptime is pretty much the key to getting the most out of your Edge slots and it makes a huge difference in long boss fights and I didn't realize this until like halfway through my second playthrough which is embarrassing to admit but there you go

Boss-Specific Gear

Some bosses are weak to specific weapon types and you'd be surprised how much difference it makes honestly like I fought Ogre Hammer Lord for 2 hours with the wrong weapon and then swapped and beat him in 5 minutes and I was so mad at myself for not checking first, look at our Boss Strategies page for detailed weaknesses before committing to a build for a tough fight it can literally be the difference between winning and wanting to smash your controller into tiny pieces and stuff like that

Boss Strategies

Build specific boss matchup guides so you know what you're walking into before you get wrecked and have to start the whole fight over from scratch which is honestly the worst feeling in the world especially when it's a 20 minute fight and you die at 5% hp and just sit there staring at the screen questioning your life choices
