Why Parry Master Is The Most Satisfying Build
look I'm not gonna lie the parry system in this game is genuinely one of the best I've ever used and I've played basically every soulslike that exists, the timing is tight but fair and when you chain multiple perfect parries in a row against a boss combo it feels absolutely incredible, the Parry Master build is all about maximizing your parry window while minimizing recovery frames so you can counter-attack immediately and honestly once you learn the frame data for each boss this build has the highest skill ceiling in the game, the key thing people don't understand is that parrying isn't just about defense it's actually your primary damage engine because the counter-strike bonuses stack multiplicatively and you can hit numbers that make DPS builds look weak
Parry Frame Data
ok here's the actual frame data I measured by recording at 60fps and counting frames, this is gonna be the most useful part of the whole guide honestly cause most people just guess at the timing and wonder why they keep getting hit
The base parry window without any skills is 8 frames for light attacks and 12 frames for heavy attacks, with the Perfect Parry skill from the Deflect tree you get +4 frames to all windows which brings light parries to 12 frames and that's honestly the difference between consistent parries and random luck, Venomous Softblade has a unique passive that reduces parry recovery by 40% which means you can parry multi-hit combos that would normally be unparryable after the first hit, Iron Blade Chen's 6-hit combo for example is basically impossible to full-parry without the Softblade but with it you can parry all 6 hits and the counter damage after the last hit is absolutely disgusting
Best Parry Weapons
- Venomous Softblade (S-Tier for Parry) — 55 damage 85 speed, 18f recovery is the fastest in the game, unique passive "Serpent's Reflex" reduces parry recovery by 40% and adds poison buildup on successful parries, this is the weapon you use for learning boss patterns and for any fight with multi-hit combos, tbh I use this for like 80% of all boss fights
- Jagged Steel (A-Tier All-Rounder) — 75 damage 70 speed, good balance of parry recovery (22f) and counter damage, has bleed proc on riposte which gives you sustain in long fights, best choice if you want one weapon that works everywhere without swapping
- White Python & Red Viper (A-Tier for Aggressive Parry) — the dual blades give you two parry attempts per input which is weirdly generous with the timing, lower counter damage but the Sha-Chi generation from dual parries lets you Power Surge way more often, honestly underrated for parry builds
Skill Tree & Boss Matchups
Max the Deflect tree first, the must-have skills are Perfect Parry (+4f window), Counter Strike (+60% riposte damage), and Riposte Mastery (riposte hits restore 15% Sha-Chi), after that dip into Shadow for the dodge frame bonuses cause sometimes you can't parry everything and need to dodge instead, stat priority is Sha-Chi > Defense > Damage cause the riposte damage already scales hard with your skills so you need Sha-Chi for Power Surges more than raw damage stats
boss matchups: Wan Jun Coppermaul (S-Tier) every single one of his attacks is parryable including the fire AoE in phase 2 which surprises most people, Iron Blade Chen (A-Tier) parryable in phases 1 and 2 but phase 3 adds unparryable sword beams so you need to mix in dodges, Ogre Hammer Lord (A-Tier) the ground slams are parryable but the timing is weird cause the shockwave continues after the parry and you still take damage if you're in the AoE zone so you need to position correctly, Snake Sovereign (B-Tier) poison attacks cannot be parried at all and the tail swipe has a hitbox that lingers longer than the parry window so you're better off dodging most of this fight
