So Phantom Blade Zero has 8 distinct endings and they all branch from decisions you make during the 66-day journey and look I'm not gonna pretend like I figured all this out on my own because some of the requirements are seriously obscure and took me multiple playthroughs to nail down. Multiple. Playthroughs. But most endings are tied to Soul's relationships with key characters and factions while the true ending requires you to basically do everything in the game which is kind of annoying tbh but the payoff is worth it I think. Anyway here's every ending with the exact requirements and I'll tell you which choices actually matter because the game is not great at communicating that. Not great at all.
True Ending - Redemption of the Blade
This is the one where Soul defeats the mastermind behind the whole conspiracy and breaks the 66-day curse and restores balance to the Sha-Chi world and honestly it's the most satisfying conclusion you can get and I mean that. And the Phantom Blade sect gets reformed under new leadership and all the loose ends get resolved properly and there's no weird ambiguity or half-finished plot threads you know what I mean so it actually feels like a real ending not one of those games that just kind of stops. Finally. It's a complete satisfying ending and you'll feel like you actually earned it because the requirements are kind of brutal and I'll tell you exactly what you need right now so you don't waste 40 hours only to miss one thing and get locked out which happened to me on my first attempt and I'm still annoyed about it you need to collect all 8 Memory Fragments hidden throughout every single region and some are behind optional bosses that you might not even find without a guide also you need to complete every major side quest every single one and save Iron Blade Chen when you face him at the Phantom Blade Fortress which is a choice the game doesn't really flag as important but it absolutely is and side with the Healer's Circle in the mid-game faction choice and defeat the final secret boss before the final boss and if you do the final boss first you're locked out of this ending and have to play the whole thing again don't make the same mistake I did seriously don't. Really brutal tbh but worth it.
All 8 Memory Fragments, all major side quests, save Iron Blade Chen, side with Healer's Circle, defeat secret boss before final boss. That's the checklist.
Revenge Ending - Blood for Blood
This is basically the default ending where Soul sacrifices everything to kill the mastermind and then immediately succumbs to the curse which is brutal but thematically consistent I guess because Soul's dying act ensures the conspiracy dies with him and honestly it's a pretty bleak way to end your first playthrough but it's also the hardest one to miss because you literally just follow the main story and ignore all the side content and faction stuff and you'll end up here whether you want it or not basically and that's actually kind of funny because all those guides telling you how to get this ending are just saying play the game normally and don't do anything extra. Kind of depressing but it works for a revenge story.
Just play the main story. Skip side content. That's it.
Order Ending - A New Order
In this one Soul joins the Order because he gets convinced that their control of Sha-Chi is necessary for world stability which I mean maybe it is maybe it isn't but the cost is Soul's freedom and honestly it feels pretty hollow by the end. And the worst part is that Iron Blade Chen becomes your enemy which sucks because I actually liked his character and now you have to fight him and it's just a bad time all around and the Order achieves its goal but at what cost and stuff like that you know the classic power vs freedom dilemma. Anyway you get this by siding with the Order during the mid-game faction choice and completing all their quests and some of those quests made me feel genuinely dirty but I think that was the point and I respect the devs for not making it feel heroic.
Side with the Order. Do all their quests. That simple.
Phantom Ending - Eternal Blade
Soul rejects both the Order and the Healer's Circle and chooses to stay with the Phantom Blade sect and rebuild it from within which is probably the most principled path though definitely not the happiest and the curse remains so Soul is still on borrowed time technically but he's found purpose beyond just surviving and there's something kind of noble about that even if it's not a fairy tale ending and honestly I think this might be my personal favorite after the true ending because it feels the most earned emotionally. Stay loyal to the sect the whole game refuse all faction offers and Iron Blade Chen must survive and that's basically it but some of those faction offers are really tempting so stay strong I guess.
Stay loyal to Phantom Blade sect. Refuse all factions. Iron Blade Chen lives.
Sacrifice Ending - His Final Dawn
Soul uses the last of his Sha-Chi to save someone he cares about and honestly I got this one on my second playthrough and it hit harder than I expected way harder like I actually had to put the controller down for a minute and I'm not usually that person it's tragic but noble and who you end up saving depends on which character you've built the strongest relationship with throughout the game so the person you sacrifice yourself for could be completely different depending on your choices and that's a nice touch that gives this ending some real replay value even though it's sad as hell. Max one relationship complete their questline and that's it no shortcuts with gifts etc.
Max relationship with one character. Finish their full questline.
Abyss Ending - Descent into Darkness
This is the dark route where Soul embraces the corrupted Sha-Chi within him and basically becomes a new threat worse than the Order and I'm not gonna lie this ending is messed up really messed up but it's also kind of my favorite because it actually carries over into New Game+ with unique corrupted abilities that you can't get any other way and the game considers this a bad ending obviously but the NG+ bonuses make it worth doing at least once and honestly some of those corrupted abilities are so fun to use that it almost feels like a reward for being evil and I'm not sure what that says about me lol probably nothing good. Collect 3 dark Sha-Chi artifacts choose dark dialogue options and yeah some of these choices feel genuinely bad to make and I respect that the devs didn't pull their punches here.
3 dark artifacts. Dark dialogue choices at key moments. Simple.
Wandering Ending - The Road Goes On
Soul just walks away from everything and I mean everything the sect the curse the conspiracy all of it and chooses to spend his remaining days in peace and honestly I respect the hell out of this decision even though the ending leaves a ton of questions unanswered and feels kind of unfinished and ambiguous on purpose and if you're the type who likes closure this one might frustrate you but I think there's something really human about just saying screw it I'm out and living what's left of your life on your own terms and honestly I've thought about this ending way more than I expected to which probably says something. Refuse to engage at 3 key decision points and this is missable so if you commit even once you're locked out and yeah walking away feels wrong I almost reloaded my save but I'm glad I didn't.
Walk away at 3 key moments. Missable.
Cycle Ending - 66 Days Again
Time resets and Soul wakes up right at the beginning of the 66 days with all his memories intact and it's basically a New Game+ setup that implies Soul's struggle is a repeating cycle which is kind of a mind-bending concept and honestly a pretty clever way to justify NG+ from a narrative perspective and I actually love this as a storytelling device because it makes every subsequent playthrough feel like it's part of the canon rather than just a mechanical replay which more games should do imo way more games. You need to beat the final boss without resolving the curse and fail to collect at least 3 Memory Fragments which is actually harder than it sounds because some fragments are basically on the main path.
Beat final boss. No curse resolved. Miss at least 3 fragments.
