Phantom Blade Zero has 8 endings in total — 3 standard endings available on a first playthrough and 5 secret endings that require specific conditions. The secret endings are not missable in a single-save sense (you can reload before the final boss), but several require actions taken as early as Chapter 2. Here is each one, what it requires, and how to get it.
Ending 1: Blade of Vengeance Standard
How to get: Complete the main story without meeting any secret ending conditions. Defeat the final boss, choose "Strike the final blow" during the post-battle dialogue.
What happens: Soul-Slayer completes his revenge, but the cycle of Sha Chi corruption continues. The post-credits scene hints at a successor taking up the Phantom Blade.
Ending 2: Path of Mercy Standard
How to get: Complete the main story. During the final post-battle dialogue, choose "Spare him." Requires your Sha Chi balance to be below 30% corruption at the time of the choice.
What happens: Soul-Slayer breaks the cycle by refusing to kill. The Phantom Blade is sealed, and the ending montage shows each major character rebuilding their lives without the Sha Chi threat.
Ending 3: Corruption's Embrace Standard
How to get: Complete the main story with Sha Chi corruption above 70%. The post-battle dialogue changes — choose "Accept the power."
What happens: Soul-Slayer becomes the new source of Sha Chi corruption. The final shot shows him sitting on the throne of the first area, now a boss arena for a theoretical sequel.
Ending 4: The Hidden Master Secret
Requirements: Defeat the optional boss "Echo of the First Blade" in Chapter 5's hidden area (accessible via a breakable wall in the Sunken Temple). Obtain the "Memory Shard" key item from this boss. Present the Memory Shard to the Old Sage NPC in Chapter 7 before the point of no return.
What happens: Soul-Slayer learns the true origin of the Phantom Blade — it was created by a previous generation's hero, not a god. This knowledge lets him destroy the blade entirely, ending the Sha Chi cycle permanently. Considered the "true" ending by the community.
Ending 5: Twin Blades Secret
Requirements: Never let any NPC companion die across the entire playthrough. This means: save Iron Blade Chen in Chapter 2 (defeat the ambush in under 2 minutes), rescue Snake Sovereign in Chapter 4 before the poison timer expires, and choose to protect Wan Jun in Chapter 6 instead of pursuing the main boss. All three must survive. At the final battle, all three appear as summons.
What happens: The four warriors fight together in an expanded final boss sequence. The ending shows them founding a school to train the next generation, with each companion taking on a different teaching role.
Ending 6: The Empty Throne Secret
Requirements: Collect all 12 "Fragments of the Fallen" scattered across the game world. These are hidden collectibles — not marked on the map. Each one requires defeating a mini-boss or solving an environmental puzzle. After collecting all 12, a new NPC appears at the starting village shrine. Speak to them before the point of no return.
What happens: Soul-Slayer refuses both vengeance and mercy, choosing instead to dismantle the entire power structure that created the Sha Chi conflict. The ending is ambiguous — the throne is empty, but the land is in chaos. The community debates whether this is the "best" or "worst" outcome.
Ending 7: Ghost's Redemption Secret
Requirements: Complete the Ghoststep Master's side quest chain (5 quests across Chapters 3-7). In the final quest, choose to forgive rather than execute the Ghoststep Master. This requires having accumulated at least 50 "Mercy Points" across the game — gained by sparing optional bosses and choosing non-lethal dialogue options.
What happens: The Ghoststep Master reveals that Soul-Slayer was his student before the amnesia. The final boss fight gains an additional phase where the Ghoststep Master sacrifices himself to weaken the boss. The ending focuses on Soul-Slayer's recovered identity and his decision to walk a new path.
Ending 8: The Cycle Continues Secret
Requirements: This is the NG+ exclusive ending. Complete the game once (any ending). In NG+, find the "Faded Scroll" in the tutorial area (it only appears in NG+). The scroll enables a new dialogue option during every major boss fight — choose it each time (7 bosses total). At the final battle, the accumulated dialogue choices unlock this ending.
What happens: Soul-Slayer recognizes that the cycle cannot be broken — only managed. He becomes a wandering guardian, appearing at key moments throughout history to guide future generations. The post-credits scene shows a modern-day city with a figure in the shadows holding the Phantom Blade, implying the cycle has followed humanity into the present.
Ending Roadmap: Efficient Path to All 8
The most efficient route to see all endings in minimum playthroughs:
- Playthrough 1 (Blind): Play naturally. You will likely get Ending 1, 2, or 3 depending on your Sha Chi balance and final choice. Before the point of no return (Chapter 7, after the bridge), make a manual save.
- Reload save: Adjust your Sha Chi balance (use the meditation mechanic to raise or lower it) and make different final dialogue choices to get the other two standard endings.
- Playthrough 2 (100% run): Follow a guide to collect all Fragments, save all companions, and complete all side quests. This unlocks Endings 4, 5, 6, and 7. Save before the point of no return and reload to get each one.
- NG+ (Playthrough 3): Speedrun through the main story, choosing the new NG+ dialogue options at each boss fight to unlock Ending 8.
